This artwork by Charles Jervas achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2002. In the The Irish Sale auction, the work Portrait of George Rochfort, of Gaulstown, Co. Westmeath, M.P. for Co. Westmeath, half-length, in a red coat, feigned half oval sold for GBP 13,145.00 (€ 20,585.25) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 7,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Jervas - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Elizabeth Felton, Of Playford, Later Countess Of Bristol (1677-1741), Three-Quarter-Length, Seated In A White Dress With A Blue Wrap, In A Wooded Landscape, which sold at auction in June 2002 for GBP 45,410.00 (€ 70,238.99).
