Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Color Regression #1; #2; and #3 (Landfall Press 261-63) by Charles Gaines was auctioned at Christies in New York in September 2003, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 900.00 – 1,200.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 358.50 (€ 217.27). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles Gaines achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Numbers And Trees: Central Park Series Iv: Tree #6, Carmichael in May 2019 with an auction result of USD 475,000.00 (€ 426,047.18).
