This artwork by Andrea Appiani achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January 2002. In the Important Old Master Paintings auction, the work Portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), half-length, his hands resting on the hilt of a sword, before a landscape sold for USD 204,000.00 (€ 237,374.91) - well above the upper estimate of USD 70,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Andrea Appiani - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), as First Consul, three-quarter-length, holding a sabre, which sold at auction in June 2004 for USD 769,100.00 (€ 631,496.84).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
