In the Important Old Master Paintings auction, the work Portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), half-length, his hands resting on the hilt of a sword, before a landscape sold for USD 204,000.00 (€ 237,374.91) - well above the upper estimate of USD 70,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Andrea Appiani - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), as First Consul, three-quarter-length, holding a sabre, which sold at auction in June 2004 for USD 769,100.00 (€ 631,496.84).
