In January 2008 Sothebys in New York held the auction The Jeffrey E. Horvitz Collection of Italian Drawings, which included the work Cupid Introducing Psyche To Jupiter by Andrea Appiani. The »bidding war« ended at USD 55,000.00 (€ 37,059.50), 38% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Andrea Appiani achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), as First Consul, three-quarter-length, holding a sabre in June 2004 with an auction result of USD 769,100.00 (€ 631,496.84).
