Upper estimate price exceeded by 68 %.
The work Mercury and Psyche by Andrea Appiani was sold in the Master Works on Paper from Five Centuries auction at Sothebys in New York in January last year. It achieved a price of USD 20,160.00 (€ 17,980.73), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 68%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Andrea Appiani achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), as First Consul, three-quarter-length, holding a sabre in June 2004 with an auction result of USD 769,100.00 (€ 631,496.84).
