Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by William Walcot achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in March 2011. In the Christie's Interiors Including Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours From The Collection of The Late John Appleby auction, the work View of the Arch of Titus, Rome (illustrated); and View of Château Saint-Malo, France sold for GBP 2,125.00 (€ 2,404.43) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Walcot achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Etruscan Temple Of Jupiter Capitolinus in March 2008 with an auction result of GBP 26,900.00 (€ 33,793.07).
