Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Still Life with Strawberries and Lilacs by William Mason Brown was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 7,560.00 (€ 6,544.32). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Mason Brown achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Still Life with Melon, Grapes, Peaches, Pears and Black Raspberries in March 2003 with an auction result of USD 83,650.00 (€ 76,743.12).
