Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Piazza della Constituzione, Athens, by Night by William Holman Hunt was sold in the British and European Art auction at Christies in New York in July this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 32,760.00 (€ 38,220.99) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Holman Hunt achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tuscan Girl Plaiting Straw in December 2013 with an auction result of GBP 3,330,500.00 (€ 4,006,074.97).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Piazza della Constituzione, Athens, by Night von William Holman Hunt wurde im Juli diesen Jahres in der Auktion British and European Art bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 30.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 32.760,00 (€ 38.220,99) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Holman Hunt erzielen.
