Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Isabella And The Pot Of Basil by William Holman Hunt was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2014, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 5,000,000.00 – 8,000,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,882,500.00 (€ 3,601,545.84). Other works by William Holman Hunt have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in December 2013 by the work Tuscan Girl Plaiting Straw at GBP 3,330,500.00 (€ 4,006,074.97).
