Sold at the lower estimate price
In July 2017 Christies in London held the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite and British Impressionist Art, which included the work Columbus jeered at while propounding his theory of the round earth, orange in hand by William Holman Hunt. The result of GBP 5,000.00 (€ 5,579.23) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 5,000.00 – 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Holman Hunt achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tuscan Girl Plaiting Straw in December 2013 with an auction result of GBP 3,330,500.00 (€ 4,006,074.97).
