It achieved a price of GBP 6,875.00 (€ 7,679.99), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 38%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Alexander - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Walls enclosing a city or town called Pou-een-gin, November 3rd 1793, which sold at auction in November 2019 for GBP 16,250.00 (€ 19,081.47).

Die Arbeit Study of a Chinese man sailing a junk von William Alexander wurde im Dezember 2020 in der Auktion 300 Years Of British Drawings bei Christies in London versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 6.875,00 (€ 7.679,99) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 38%. Für andere Arbeiten von William Alexander mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Walls enclosing a city or town called Pou-een-gin, November 3rd 1793 beobachtet, die im November 2019 für GBP 16.250,00 (€ 19.081,47) versteigert wurde.
