Auction result well in line with expectations
The work An Inferior Mandarin of Turon Bay by William Alexander was sold in the Master Works on Paper from Five Centuries auction at Sothebys in New York in January last year. The price achieved of USD 9,450.00 (€ 8,428.47) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Alexander - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Walls enclosing a city or town called Pou-een-gin, November 3rd 1793, which sold at auction in November 2019 for GBP 16,250.00 (€ 19,081.47).
