In July 2013 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Drawings including French Masterworks from the Dormeuil Collection, which included the work Three Chinese Figures Smoking, The Bridge Pagoda, Shanghai Beyond by William Alexander. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 6,875.00 (€ 7,855.89), 38% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Alexander - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Walls enclosing a city or town called Pou-een-gin, November 3rd 1793, which sold at auction in November 2019 for GBP 16,250.00 (€ 19,081.47).

Im Juli 2013 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Master & British Drawings including French Masterworks from the Dormeuil Collection durch, in der auch die Arbeit Three Chinese Figures Smoking, The Bridge Pagoda, Shanghai Beyond von William Alexander zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 6.875,00 (€ 7.855,89) und damit 38% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von William Alexander mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Walls enclosing a city or town called Pou-een-gin, November 3rd 1793 beobachtet, die im November 2019 für GBP 16.250,00 (€ 19.081,47) versteigert wurde.
