Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Village In Late Spring by Willard Leroy Metcalf was sold in the American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture auction at Sothebys in New York in May 2008. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 265,000.00 (€ 170,308.48) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Willard Leroy Metcalf - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work October Festival, which sold at auction in May 2014 for USD 545,000.00 (€ 399,560.12).
