This artwork by Willard Leroy Metcalf achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May 2008. In the American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture auction, the work The Bower sold for USD 445,000.00 (€ 285,989.72) - well above the upper estimate of USD 150,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Willard Leroy Metcalf; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot October Festival sold at auction in May 2014 with the realized price of USD 545,000.00 (€ 399,560.12).
