Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Willard Leroy Metcalf achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May 2008. In the American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture auction, the work The Bower sold for USD 445,000.00 (€ 285,989.72) - well above the upper estimate of USD 150,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Willard Leroy Metcalf; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot October Festival sold at auction in May 2014 with the realized price of USD 545,000.00 (€ 399,560.12).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Willard Leroy Metcalf erzielte im Mai 2008 bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture wurde die Arbeit The Bower für USD 445.000,00 (€ 285.989,72) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 150.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Willard Leroy Metcalf; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit October Festival im Mai 2014 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 545.000,00 (€ 399.560,12).
