Auction result well in line with expectations

The work Yokohama ijin shokan uriba no zu View of the trading floor in a foreign building in Yokohama, a triptych depicting in detail the interior of a trader's house with two Western clerks, a Chinese man holding up a length of cloth, etc. by Utagawa Sadahide was sold in the Japanese Art & Design auction at Christies in London in June 2003. It changed hands for a price of GBP 2,390.00 (€ 3,434.56) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 2,000.00 – 2,500.00. Admittedly, works by Utagawa Sadahide have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Yokohama koeki seiyojin kamotsu unso no zu (A view of Western traders transporting merchandise at Yokohama) in September 2002 with an auction result of USD 17,925.00 (€ 18,144.55).

Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 2.390,00 (€ 3.434,56) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 2.500,00.
