In November 2019 Christies in London held the auction China Trade Paintings: Selections from the Kelton Collection, which included the work Sailing from California Harbour, America (Amerikashu Kariforunia ko shuppan no zu) by Utagawa Sadahide. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 3,750.00 (€ 4,403.42), 25% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Utagawa Sadahide have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Yokohama koeki seiyojin kamotsu unso no zu (A view of Western traders transporting merchandise at Yokohama) in September 2002 with an auction result of USD 17,925.00 (€ 18,144.55).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 25 % übertroffen
Im November 2019 führte Christies in London die Auktion China Trade Paintings: Selections from the Kelton Collection durch, in der auch die Arbeit Sailing from California Harbour, America (Amerikashu Kariforunia ko shuppan no zu) von Utagawa Sadahide zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 3.750,00 (€ 4.403,42) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Utagawa Sadahide auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Yokohama koeki seiyojin kamotsu unso no zu (A view of Western traders transporting merchandise at Yokohama) im September 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 17.925,00 (€ 18.144,55).
