In September 2018 Sothebys in New York held the auction Contemporary Curated, which included the work We Lost by Tony Smith. The »bidding war« ended at USD 162,500.00 (€ 139,821.03), 35% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Tony Smith - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work For J.C., which sold at auction in May 2011 for USD 530,500.00 (€ 369,017.81).

Im September 2018 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Contemporary Curated durch, in der auch die Arbeit We Lost von Tony Smith zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 162.500,00 (€ 139.821,03) und damit 35% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Tony Smith mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit For J.C. beobachtet, die im Mai 2011 für USD 530.500,00 (€ 369.017,81) versteigert wurde.
