Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of Gabriele Giolito de' Ferrari (c. 1508-1578), three-quarter-length by Tiziano Vecellio was auctioned at Christies in New York in April 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 600,000.00 – 800,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 547,500.00 (€ 502,524.09). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tiziano Vecellio achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Sacra Conversazione: The Madonna And Child With Saints Luke And Catherine Of Alexandria in January 2011 with an auction result of USD 16,882,500.00 (€ 12,309,515.13).
