This artwork by Thomas Sully achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May 2004. In the Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture auction, the work Self Portrait sold for USD 102,770.00 (€ 84,120.49) - well above the upper estimate of USD 50,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Sully - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Thomas Jefferson, which sold at auction in May 2003 for USD 209,100.00 (€ 177,715.45).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Thomas Sully erzielte im Mai 2004 bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture wurde die Arbeit Self Portrait für USD 102.770,00 (€ 84.120,49) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 50.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Thomas Sully mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait of Thomas Jefferson beobachtet, die im Mai 2003 für USD 209.100,00 (€ 177.715,45) versteigert wurde.
