Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2018 Sothebys in London held the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, which included the work The Lych-Gate by Thomas Matthews Rooke. The price achieved of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 19,496.55) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Matthews Rooke - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Clytie Turning Towards The Sun, which sold at auction in December 2006 for GBP 45,600.00 (€ 67,676.11).
