Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Theaster Gates could be acquired at Phillips in New York in May last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale, Afternoon Session auction, the work Ledge 1 changed hands for USD 37,800.00 (€ 35,225.05) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Theaster Gates achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Flag For The Least Of Them in December 2018 with an auction result of USD 807,000.00 (€ 704,434.36).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von Theaster Gates konnte im Mai letzten Jahres bei Phillips in New York für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale, Afternoon Session wechselte die Arbeit Ledge 1 für USD 37.800,00 (€ 35.225,05) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 50.000,00 – 70.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Theaster Gates erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Flag For The Least Of Them im Dezember 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 807.000,00 (€ 704.434,36).
