Despite a disappointment, a good price for Solomon Joseph Solomon
When the work Eve by Solomon Joseph Solomon was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 975,000.00 (€ 819,465.46). Despite this disappointing result, Eve is the most expensive artwork by Solomon Joseph Solomon that we have observed at auction so far.
