Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of Kit 61 x 50 cm. (24 x 19 1/2 in.) by William Orpen was auctioned at Bonhams in Dublin in November this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of EUR 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for EUR 70,250.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Orpen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Lady Idina Wallace in November 2013 with an auction result of GBP 962,500.00 (€ 1,158,239.93).
