Artwork auctioned at eight times the upper estimate price
When the work Mediterranean landscape with trees (i; ii; iii) by Matthew Smith was auctioned at Christies in London in September 2020, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 800.00 but the actual price achieved was more than eight times as high at GBP 6,875.00 (€ 7,580.81). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Matthew Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Connie Martin in January 2020 with an auction result of GBP 212,500.00 (€ 252,766.38).
