In June 2019 Christies in London held the auction Modern British Art Day Sale, which included the work Flowers and Fruit by Matthew Smith. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 62,500.00 (€ 70,259.27), 25% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Matthew Smith - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Connie Martin, which sold at auction in January 2020 for GBP 212,500.00 (€ 252,766.38).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 25 % übertroffen
Im Juni 2019 führte Christies in London die Auktion Modern British Art Day Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Flowers and Fruit von Matthew Smith zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 62.500,00 (€ 70.259,27) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Matthew Smith mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Connie Martin beobachtet, die im Januar 2020 für GBP 212.500,00 (€ 252.766,38) versteigert wurde.
