This artwork by Charles D'Oyly achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in London in September 2021. In the Travel & Exploration auction, the work Portrait Of A Wealthy Indian Man, Possibly A Prince Mounted But Unframed sold for GBP 1,785.00 (€ 2,076.87) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles D'Oyly achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Pushkar, India, with a parade of figures, elephants and horses in the foreground in October 2011 with an auction result of GBP 22,500.00 (€ 26,039.47).
