Auction result well in line with expectations

The work An inexperienced palanquin rider, Tom Raw hiring a palanquin on the Esplanade, Calcutta by Charles D'Oyly was sold in the ARTS OF INDIA auction at Christies in London in September 2001. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 4,112.50 (€ 6,639.93) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles D'Oyly - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Pushkar, India, with a parade of figures, elephants and horses in the foreground, which sold at auction in October 2011 for GBP 22,500.00 (€ 26,039.47).
