Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work 'Reflection In Window Pane Of Empire State Building' by Sherril Schell was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in April 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,875.00 (€ 1,423.91). Admittedly, works by Sherril Schell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Pattern of Light and Shadow Under Elevated R.R. Looking Up, 1930 in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 5,000.00 (€ 7,001.29).
