Auction result well in line with expectations
The work An officer, in red coat with buff facings and white epaulettes, white cravat and black stock, powdered hair by Samuel Cotes was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2004. The price achieved of GBP 717.00 (€ 1,075.76) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 600.00 – 800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Samuel Cotes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A boy, in pink-lined sea-green coat and waistcoat, lace-bordered white shirt, black hat adorned with black-lined pink ribbon and bow in his curling fair hair in December 2003 with an auction result of GBP 19,120.00 (€ 27,080.97).
