Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Samuel Cooper could be acquired at Sothebys in London in July 2017 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master & British Works on Paper auction, the work Portrait Of Sir William Fairfax (1609-1644) changed hands for GBP 6,875.00 (€ 7,671.44) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Samuel Cooper achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Gentleman Called John Campbell, Earl of Loudoun (1598-1663), In Gilt-Studded Armour, Large White Patterned Lawn Collar; Sky And Cloud Background in June 2007 with an auction result of GBP 66,000.00 (€ 97,940.68).
