Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Probably Sidney Godolphin (1610-1643) by Samuel Cooper was sold in the Old Master & Early British Paintings auction at Sothebys in London in April 2011. The price achieved of GBP 37,250.00 (€ 41,949.92) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 30,000.00 – 40,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Samuel Cooper - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Gentleman Called John Campbell, Earl of Loudoun (1598-1663), In Gilt-Studded Armour, Large White Patterned Lawn Collar; Sky And Cloud Background, which sold at auction in June 2007 for GBP 66,000.00 (€ 97,940.68).
