During the 1880s and 1890s, Robert Vonnoh made many trips to France where he rented a home with a courtyard in the artists' colony of Grez-sur-Loing, which is depicted in the present work. This work was in the collection of a descendant and neighbor of Vonnoh's landlord, Marie Simard, before being acquired by the present owner.

Sold at the lower estimate price
The work Grez-sur-Loing by Robert William Vonnoh was auctioned at Christies in New York in November 2017. The result of USD 20,000.00 (€ 16,809.55) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Robert William Vonnoh - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Blue Chair, which sold at auction in December 2004 for USD 71,700.00 (€ 52,962.03).
Zuschlag beim unteren Schätzpreis
Die Arbeit Grez-sur-Loing von Robert William Vonnoh kam im November 2017 bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von USD 20.000,00 (€ 16.809,55) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Robert William Vonnoh mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The Blue Chair beobachtet, die im Dezember 2004 für USD 71.700,00 (€ 52.962,03) versteigert wurde.
