Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Project For An Open Pit With Lake by Robert Smithson was sold in the Contemporary Curated auction at Sothebys in New York in March 2018. It changed hands for a price of USD 32,500.00 (€ 26,379.87) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert Smithson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Alogon #3 in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 4,297,000.00 (€ 2,761,568.12).

Die Arbeit Project For An Open Pit With Lake von Robert Smithson wurde im März 2018 in der Auktion Contemporary Curated bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von USD 32.500,00 (€ 26.379,87) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 25.000,00 – 35.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Robert Smithson erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Alogon #3 im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 4.297.000,00 (€ 2.761.568,12).
