Upper estimate price exceeded by 46 %.
The work Island Of Coal by Robert Smithson was sold in the Contemporary Curated auction at Sothebys in New York in September 2017. It achieved a price of USD 17,500.00 (€ 14,814.19), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 46%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert Smithson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Alogon #3 in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 4,297,000.00 (€ 2,761,568.12).
