RICHARD TUTTLE (B. 1941) Perceived Obstacles the complete set of five lithographs in colors, on Somerset paper, 1991, each initialed, annotated 'A' through 'E' respectively in pencil and numbered 24/45 (there were also ten artist's proofs), published by Brooke Alexander, Inc., New York, each with full margins, in very good condition Overall: 12 7 ⁄ 8 x 37 1 ⁄ 8 x 1 ⁄ 4 in. (328 x 940 x 4 mm.)
Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Perceived Obstacles by Richard Tuttle was auctioned at Christies in New York in April this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 504.00 (€ 456.52). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Richard Tuttle achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Silver Picture in May 2010 with an auction result of USD 1,762,500.00 (€ 1,424,933.30).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Perceived Obstacles von Richard Tuttle im April diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000,00 – 1.500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 504,00 (€ 456,52) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Richard Tuttle erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Silver Picture im Mai 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.762.500,00 (€ 1.424.933,30).
