Conceived in 1910 and cast in an edition of 6 by Georges Rudier for Louis Carré at the beginning of the 1960s, the present work is derived from the figures of two warriors on the pediment of the Temple of Aphaia at Aegina. While a demonstration of the artist's admiration for archaic sculpture, Torse de Jeune Homme, with its carefully unified planes and massive structure, also serves as a precursor to Duchamp-Villon's Cubist years. Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Raymond Duchamp-Villon achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May 2012. In the Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sale auction, the work Torse De Jeune Homme sold for USD 158,500.00 (€ 128,194.76) - well above the upper estimate of USD 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Raymond Duchamp-Villon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Femme assisse in May 2002 with an auction result of USD 1,439,500.00 (€ 1,541,385.59).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Raymond Duchamp-Villon erzielte im Mai 2012 bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sale wurde die Arbeit Torse De Jeune Homme für USD 158.500,00 (€ 128.194,76) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 60.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Raymond Duchamp-Villon erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Femme assisse im Mai 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.439.500,00 (€ 1.541.385,59).
