gouache heightened with gold and silver on wood, in high relief, painted and modelled to resemble a curved Mughal axe finely decorated in gilt damascene with geometric and foliate patterns, terminating in a deers head inset with a ruby; a further Mughal axe, painted and modelled in high relief to resemble gilt damascene with foliate designs, axe head decorated with lines of calligraphy; and a detail of a weapon, gemset, painted and modelled in high relief to resemble the hilt of a Mughal weapon finely decorated in gilt damascene inlaid with rubies, each one signed -- 26.5 x 12.8cm. maximum.

A top price for Ramesh Sharma
The work Deers head axe by Ramesh Sharma was sold in the Islamic and Indian Works of Art auction at Christies in London in October 2001. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,175.00 (€ 1,898.97), 31% above the upper estimate. With this result, Deers head axe is even the most expensive work of art by Ramesh Sharma that we have observed at auctions so far.

Die Arbeit Deers head axe von Ramesh Sharma wurde im Oktober 2001 in der Auktion Islamic and Indian Works of Art bei Christies in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 1.175,00 (€ 1.898,97) und damit 31% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Mit diesem Ergebnis ist Deers head axe sogar das teuerste Kunstwerk von Ramesh Sharma, das wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachtet haben.
