Description
QIAN DU (1763-1844) Scholar under Tree Hanging scroll, ink and colour on paper 110.5 x 30 cm. (43 1 ⁄ 2 x 11 3 ⁄ 4 in.) Entitled, inscribed and signed, with two seals of the artist Dedicated to Qinghu Further inscribed and signed by the artist, with three seals. Dated winter, tenth month, renyin year, Daoguang reign (1842)
Auction result well in line with expectations
In December last year Christies in Hong Kong held the auction Exquisite Eye: Chinese Paintings Online, which included the work Scholar under Tree by Qian Du. It changed hands for a price of HKD 32,760.00 (€ 3,925.81) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of HKD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Qian Du achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Rocky Cliffs in October 2011 with an auction result of HKD 1,460,000.00 (€ 134,830.43).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Dezember letzten Jahres führte Christies in Hong Kong die Auktion Exquisite Eye: Chinese Paintings Online durch, in der auch die Arbeit Scholar under Tree von Qian Du zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von HKD 32.760,00 (€ 3.925,81) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von HKD 25.000,00 – 35.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Qian Du erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Rocky Cliffs im Oktober 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 1.460.000,00 (€ 134.830,43).
