The work "The Freezing of the Sea", April 1911 by Herbert George Ponting was worth GBP 19,000.00 (€ 21,912.92) to a buyer in February 2021. This price was achieved in the auction Travel & Exploration at Bonhams in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00 many times over. Admittedly, works by Herbert George Ponting have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-13: Ponting's three master albums of contact prints in September 2010 with an auction result of GBP 169,250.00 (€ 195,755.59).
