PHILIP TAAFFE (B. 1955) Dryadic Figures signed, titled and dated 'Philip Taaffe Dryadic Figures 2004-2006' (on the reverse) mixed media on canvas 84 1 ⁄ 2 x 101 1 ⁄ 2 in. (214.6 x 257.8 cm.) Executed in 2004-2006.
Auction result well in line with expectations
In December last year Christies in New York held the auction First Open | Post-War & Contemporary Art, which included the work Dryadic Figures by Philip Taaffe. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 32,760.00 (€ 30,622.55) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Philip Taaffe have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Midnight Blue in May 2011 with an auction result of USD 434,500.00 (€ 302,239.84).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Dezember letzten Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion First Open | Post-War & Contemporary Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Dryadic Figures von Philip Taaffe zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 30.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 32.760,00 (€ 30.622,55) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Philip Taaffe auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Midnight Blue im Mai 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 434.500,00 (€ 302.239,84).
