Auction result well in line with expectations
The work La Marchande de canne à sucre (The Sugarcane Cutter) by Nguyen Phan Chanh was sold in the 20th/21st Century Art Evening Sale auction at Christies in Hong Kong in May last year. The price achieved of HKD 3,528,000.00 (€ 418,849.32) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as HKD 2,800,000.00 – 4,800,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Nguyen Phan Chanh - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Les Couturières (Seamstresses at Work), which sold at auction in December 2020 for HKD 10,930,000.00 (€ 1,152,878.17).
