Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In June 2009 Sothebys in New York held the auction Old Master Paintings, European Sculpture & Antiquities, which included the work Portrait Of Admiral Sir Hugh Palliser, 1St Bart. (1722-1796) by Nathaniel Dance-Holland. The »bidding war« ended at USD 80,500.00 (€ 57,417.97), 15% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Nathaniel Dance-Holland have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Thomas Assheton-Smith (1752-1828), full-length, in a red jacket in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 400,000.00 (€ 469,082.94).
