Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Grandfather'S Name Day (Nagyapó Névnapja) by Mihály Munkácsy was auctioned at Christies in New York in April 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 275,000.00 (€ 227,762.13) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Mihály Munkácsy - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Two Families, which sold at auction in October 2003 for USD 662,700.00 (€ 570,850.20).
