In October 2003 Christies in New York held the auction 19th Century European Art, which included the work The Two Families by Mihály Munkácsy. The »bidding war« ended at USD 662,700.00 (€ 570,850.20), 66% above the upper estimate. This high result makes The Two Families the most expensive artwork by Mihály Munkácsy that we have observed at auctions so far.
