Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Princess Soutzo by Mihály Munkácsy was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January last year. The price achieved of USD 176,400.00 (€ 157,331.43) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 150,000.00 – 200,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Mihály Munkácsy - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Two Families, which sold at auction in October 2003 for USD 662,700.00 (€ 570,850.20).
