Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Madura: Trimul Naik'S Choultry, Portico; Basement Of Gopurum, Each 1858 by Linnaeus Tripe was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 4,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,987.50 (€ 4,297.50). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Linnaeus Tripe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Views of India, Indonesia and Myanmar (Burma), c. 1858 in September 2017 with an auction result of USD 107,500.00 (€ 91,001.44).
