The work Bacon's Dance of the Macabre by Lincoln Townley was worth USD 277,200.00 (€ 245,592.27) to a buyer in November 2021. This price was achieved in the auction Contemporary Day Auction at Sothebys in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 70,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Lincoln Townley; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Dance with the Devil sold at auction in March last year with the realized price of USD 378,000.00 (€ 340,755.43).
