Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Present Tense by Kendell Geers was auctioned at Sothebys in London in October 2012, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 17,500.00 (€ 21,758.18). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Kendell Geers - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Twilight of the Idols (Virgin Mary), which sold at auction in February 2008 for GBP 66,500.00 (€ 86,979.39).
