This artwork by Kara Walker achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May last year. In the Contemporary Day Auction auction, the work Negress Notes sold for USD 529,200.00 (€ 493,150.68) - well above the upper estimate of USD 300,000.00. This high result makes Negress Notes the most expensive artwork by Kara Walker that we have observed at auctions so far.
